Uber granted permission to come to Dundee
It follows a similar move in Aberdeen
Uber has been granted a licence to operate in Dundee.
The company hopes to move in later this year with a launch date yet to be confirmed.
And it still has to pass background checks before it can start conducting business.
Unite taxi branch representative in Dundee Chris Elder said: “We feel that an impact assessment should have been carried out on the current taxi trade before allowing Uber into Dundee.
“What will happen is that the fair pricing model that Uber use, will impact on passengers.
“Looking at other areas where Uber has been allowed in, the taxi trade has been affected massively.
The taxi firm’s application shows it will operate from the Flour Mill complex on Commercial Street.
A spokesperson for Uber said: “This decision will help boost earning opportunities for drivers, provide passengers with greater transport options across the city and support the local economy.
“All drivers will have access to industry leading worker rights such as holiday pay and a pension, as well as formal representation through GMB Union.”
