Two treated after chemical spill at Perth school
Emergency services were called out to St John's RC Academy at 6.15pm on Thursday after the spillage of potentially harmful, Formalin, within a classroom.
Two people required treatment at a Perth school after a hazardous chemical spill.
Emergency services were called out to St John's RC Academy at the North Inch Community Campus at 6.15pm on Thursday after the spillage of potentially harmful chemical, Formalin, within a classroom.
The Fire Service was unable to disclose the ages of the casualties, thought to be cleaners. Perth and Kinross Council said no pupils or teachers were involved.
Emergency services had to use breathing apparatus, chemical suits and decontamination equipment while dealing with the spill, before handing over to specialist contractors who cleaned the classroom, the fire service said.
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross council said: "There was some accidental damage at North Inch Community Campus last night. Police and Fire Service attended the scene. The school is open today as normal.
“It was out of school hours, so there were no school pupils in the building.
“There was also no teaching staff present although there was staff that are employed by the campus which would include cleaners and security personnel.”
