Two people rescued from River Tay by lifeboat crews in separate incidents

A man and a woman have been rescued from the River Tay in two separate incidents in the space of ninety minutes.

Broughty Ferry Lifeboat crews were first called out at around 5.15pm on Thursday 21st June after reports someone had fallen from the Tay Road Bridge.

They inshore lifeboat team found and rescued a woman from the water who had injuries.

She was then transferred to the all-weather lifeboat, Elizabeth of Glamis, before being taken to the lifeboat station.

The woman was then handed over to an ambulance crew and was taken to hospital.

Police closed both lanes of the bridge at around this time.

Ten minutes after returning crews were then called to another report of a person the Tay.

This time a swimmer had got into trouble – the man was found half way across the river in between both bridges.

He was taken back to the lifeboat station and then transported to Ninewells Hospital Emergency Department for assessment.
