Two people rescued after fishing boat runs aground in St Andrews

Emergency teams were called to the harbour area around 1pm

Two people have been rescued from the water after a fishing boat ran aground and sank in St Andrews Harbour.

Local HM Coastguard rescue teams, lifeboats from Broughty Ferry RNLI and the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Ayrshire were sent to the scene around 1pm.

The sailors were transferred into the care of the ambulance service.

A spokesperson from HM Coastguard said: “HM Coastguard has been responding to a vessel running aground in the St Andrew's Harbour area today, 3 December.

“Alerted at around 1pm, Coastguard Rescue Teams from St Andrews and Leven, lifeboats from Broughty Ferry RNLI and the coastguard search and rescue helicopter from Prestwick were sent to the scene.

“The casualties from the vessel were recovered to shore and transferred into the care of the ambulance service.”
