A Dundee mum's urging others not to leave their electrics on when leaving home after her tumble dryer caught fire, destroying all her belongings.

Black smoke was seen billowing from Wendy Forbes' house on Fintry Drive on Monday morning.

Fire damage

Only her dog Buddy was inside but firefighters managed to rescue him.

Doors and windows of the house are now boarded up for safety.

Wendy told Tay News: "I've never experienced anything like it in my whole entire life. I was completely devastated, just in total disarray and panic.

"I had a missed call from my neighbour. She was telling me my house was on fire. I just grabbed my stuff and ran.

"I'd noticed the smoke belching from Fintry Drive when I reached the top of Forfar Road. I was calling my friend, that's when I became really heightened and screaming 'please just get my dog out'.

"There was no indication of what was to come. There was no smell of burning prior me to leaving the property."

The property, which is owned by Abertay Housing, appears to be structurally sound from the outside but Wendy says the damage inside is extensive.

She recently cancelled contents insurance for the house and has yet to calculate how much money she's lost in damages.

The fire ripped through her belongings, including her son's PS5 and all of their clothes.

A crowdfunder has been set up in her name to help the family get back on their feet.
