Paolo Nutini headlines as TRNSMT festival begins
50,000 music fans are expected at Glasgow Green each day
50,000 fans are heading for Glasgow Green for the return of Scotland’s biggest music festival, TRNSMT.
Paolo Nutini is the headline act on the opening day, and the weekend will also see performances from The Strokes and Lewis Capaldi.
The Paisley-born singer recently returned from an eight-year hiatus with a new album.
Other big names on the line-up include Sam Fender, Nile Rodgers and Chic, Foals, Fontaines D.C. and Wolf Alice.
Travel warning
Getting to and from the festival won’t be easy.
There’s no car parking on site and many of the roads around Glasgow Green are closed, leading organisers to advise fans not to come by car.
And Scotrail is warning anyone who stays to the end of the headliners’ sets that they might not be able to get a train home with services still running to a reduced timetable because of a shortage of drivers.
The festival’s curfew has been set for 11pm, but the last trains are leaving Glasgow Central station just a few minutes later on Friday and Saturday, and there will be no services after the event closes on Sunday.

- Glasgow to East Kilbride 11.17pm
- Glasgow to Gourock 11.21pm
- Glasgow to Ayr 11.30pm
- Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh 11.45pm
Organisers have advised those attending not to travel by car as there is no parking available and surrounding roads will be closed.
TRNSMT history
TRNSMT was fist staged in 2017 the year after the demise of T in the Park following an unsuccessful move away from Balado to a new venue.
The Covid pandemic forced it to be cancelled in 2020 and last year’s event was moved to September amid uncertainty about when coronavirus restrictions on mass events would be lifted.
