Three trees have been chopped down by vandals apparently using a chainsaw at a war memorial in Angus.

It appears the trees in Brechin Public Park were cut down at some point on Wednesday, 14 December.

A member of the public saw they had been cut down and later reported it to the local council after realising it was not the council that had carried out the “work”.

A fourth tree has also been downed on the nature trail in Brechin.

Indications are that all of the trees were felled by someone using a chainsaw.

Angus Councillor, Donald Morrison was shocked by the news.

He said: "At this time of year, to vandalise a war memorial and cut down three trees is just completely disrespectful to the people of Brechin.

"Hopefully somebody has seen someone wandering about and acting suspiciously and I would encourage them to act quickly."

He added: "It's a disturbing incident and the mind-set of the person that's decided this is good fun.

“My concern is that this person could have been carrying a chainsaw around Brechin City and there’s a lot of groups here who have given up free time to instil that pride in place and this person has come and shattered this."
