St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright will pay no attention to last season's struggles against Partick Thistle as he prepares for the trip to Firhill on Saturday.

Alan Archibald's side came out on top in their three Premiership meetings, twice winning 2-1 at McDiarmid Park with a 2-0 victory at Firhill, although Saints finished the campaign in fourth spot with the Jags ninth.

However, Wright insists a new season brings a fresh slate.

The Northern Irishman said: "Think of the game here when there were two wonder goals, from Gary Miller from 30 yards and Stevie Lawless from about 30 yards.

"It seemed like everything they hit against us last season went into the top corner, taking nothing away from their performances.

"But overall in our performances, we did enough to get some points from the three games but we didn't.

"Team squads have slightly changed and it is a totally new season, so I don't think it will have any bearing on Saturday. "I always admire what Alan does. They are probably a similar sized club to ours, he gets the best out of what resources he has got and Chris Erskine coming back seems to be a really good signing, and he can chip in with goals and particularly from outside the box as well. "They are attack-minded and we know it is going to be a difficult game. But if our motivation is what happened last season then we have a problem.

"Our motivation is this season and we have an opportunity to win a game. It is not a matter of putting anything right."
