Thomas Cook workers in Dundee will be given legal support by Unite the Union.

A mass meeting will be held in the City of Discovery on Thursday 3rd October following the collapse of the travel firm last week.

The company fell into compulsory liquidation in September resulting in over 21,000 people losing their jobs.

Consequently, more than 150,000 passengers were stranded abroad and 360,000 more seeking refunds for future bookings.

Thomas Cook had stores in Dundee, Broughty Ferry, Perth and St Andrews which have all now shut their doors.

Unite regional coordinating officer Dougie Maguire said: “The workers have been abandoned by the UK Government, who failed to make an intervention, but Unite has pledged to give every assistance to those affected by the collapse of Thomas Cook.

“A drop-in session will be held in Dundee for workers following the meeting in Glasgow which was attended by over three hundred workers.

“This is clearly a traumatic time for all concerned and the meeting will focus on legal advice and assistance with future employment opportunities for the workers.

“It’s important to state that any successful legal action could have a value of up to 90 days’ pay and unlike no-win-no-fee solicitors Unite members who use our Legal Services will keep 100 per cent of any award.”

This come as former Thomas Cook workers will be demonstrate at Downing Street on Wednesday about why the Government didn't step in to rescue the travel company.

There’s also been a warning that other airlines could go follow them into liquidation.

That’s according to a government review of aviation – which says the growing pressure and market conditions may put others at risk.
