Union calls off Christmas strikes at supermarket warehouse after new Tesco pay offer
Usdaw is going to ballot its members
A union has suspended strike action which could affect supplies at Tesco supermarkets across Scotland over Christmas, after bosses made a fresh pay offer.
5,000 Usdaw members at nine distribution sites - including the major one at Livingston - will now be balloted on the proposed deal.
They had been planning to walk out from Monday 20th of December and not return before Christmas.
Members of another union, Unite, also announced they would take part in the industrial action at the West Lothian depot - and remain in talks with bosses to strike an agreement.
Joanne McGuinness, Usdaw National Officer said: “After the overwhelming vote in favour of industrial action, Tesco reopened pay negotiations with Usdaw. I am pleased to say that we have been successful in achieving a significantly improved offer and Usdaw is recommending that members accept it in the ballot.
“Full details of the offer will be shared from noon on Wednesday, when the ballot opens. Having reached this improved offer, we have withdrawn notice of strike action.
“I want to thank our members for their support and determination during the industrial action ballot. This is a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when we collectively stand together.”
A Tesco spokesperson has said the supermarket chain is 'pleased' to have struck a deal with Usdaw.
