The Scottish SPCA is appealing for information after two terrapins were found abandoned inside a Tupperware dish.

Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted on 10 December by a member of the public who was out jogging near Muirton Place, Perth where they spotted the terrapins.

Named Jingle and Bells by staff, they are now in the care of the charity’s animal rescue and rehoming centre in Dundee.

Centre Assistant Manager Dale Christie said, “Both terrapins are quite small and can be handled.

"They appear to be in relatively good nick, apart from some knocks to their shell.

“We are appealing for any information or if anyone noticed any suspicious activity we urge you to get in touch.”

Abandoning an animal is an offence under the Animal Health and Welfare (Scotland) Act 2006 and anyone found guilty of doing so can expect to be banned from keeping animals for a fixed period or life.
