A new partnership between Tayside’s emergency services will see youngsters receive a comfort teddy and activity book to put them at ease during call outs.

Working alongside Children 1st - it’s hoped it will help build a rapport with kids and link families to further support.

Linda Jardine from the charity said: "That act of kindness will sooth that child, release them from what might be a very frozen state of emotion and help calm them."

"As well as comforting children and easing their distress the teddies and books also provide parents with information about Children 1st's parent-line service."

The idea has been used by Tayside police since last year, and the man who helped introduce says it's made a big difference.

"If we find ourselves in a situation where a child has been party to something upsetting, we can turn that into something more positive," said Inspector Chris Boath.

It can also give that support through Children 1st and help them recover from that traumatic event.
