The Deputy First Minister says news of a second coronavirus outbreak at the 2 Sisters plant in Coupar Angus is of "deep concern".

30 cases have been detected by health officials, last year more than 150 employees tested positive.

The site is based in John Swinney's constituency of Perthshire North.

"It's a clearly a very situation that's taking place across the country in relation to covid, where we have significant levels of infection," he said.

"The news that's been released about the extent of the outbreak at the 2 Sisters factory in Coupar Angus is of deep concern."

The factory was closed after four cases were detected in August, with the military soon called in to deliver rapid testing.

As it stands the health board's confirmed the factory will remain open. The Deputy First Minister backs that decision.

"There is very good knowledge about how to tackle this situation and how to put in place the measures to make sure the virus is brought under control," he added.

I know that the Incident Management Team from NHS Tayside will be doing everything the can with the company to make sure that is the case."

NHS Tayside will provide an update on the situation in January 11.
