There could soon be a driving ban near a Dundee school in bid to cut congestion.

Four streets surrounding Fintry Primary could be closed off at the start and end of the school day if councillors approve plans next week.

Two restrictions would come into play at the start and end of the school day.

Wendy Dunne's a parent at the school, she said she's not convinced.

"I don't see the point in doing it. It's absolutely ridiculous," she said.

"I think it's not good at all. There's no where to park.

"There's no parking in the school, so where else are you meant to leave your car?"

However 9-year-old Fintry pupil Rachel disagrees.

"I agree (with the ban). It's very dangerous for all the children crossing the road with cars coming both ways," she said.

Councillors will discuss the proposal on Monday.

Alan Ross convener of Dundee City Council’s city development committee said: “This proposal originated from the Dundee Decides participatory budget exercise, but has proved to be less than straightforward to implement.

“As it is in a residential area with other amenities nearby it means that people will have to plan any car journeys they make with the restriction times in mind.

“Since 2013 similar schemes have been operating successfully at Forthill and St Mary’s primary schools and I am sure that a little inconvenience for two relatively short periods each school day is worth it for the protection of children and other pedestrians.”

If Councillors agree the move a draft Part Time Prohibition of Driving Order will be prepared as the first statutory step to bringing in the restrictions.
