First Minister Nicola Sturgeon condemns Clyde's signing of David Goodwillie
Raith Rovers have loaned Goodwillie back to his former club
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has condemned Clyde's signing of former striker David Goodwillie, on loan from Raith Rovers.
Sturgeon tweeted: "For the record, I think this is as wrong as the signing by Raith Rovers.
"I strongly support rehabilitation but it must start with remorse.
"Someone who has shown none for the trauma he caused cannot be a sporting role model."
The First Minister had previously urged Raith to rethink their decision to sign Goodwillie and called on the SPFL to take action over the move.
The 32-year old completed his move to Clyde last night, before the loan deadline for clubs in Scotland.
He has returned to Broadwood on a temporary deal until the summer when the move could be made permanent.
Goodwillie was captain of Clyde before his move to Raith Rovers and scored over 100 goals for them over a five year period.
Raith faced a significant backlash for bringing in the striker during the January transfer window.
Sponsors cut ties with the club and employees resigned because in a civil court case in 2017 Goodwillie was found to have raped a woman.
Chairman John Sim made a quick u-turn and released a statement saying the former Scotland international wouldn't feature for the club.
Manager John McGlynn also apologised for his part in the signing.
