Strathmartine Fire Extinguished
Fire crews are attempting to establish the cause of a major blaze - which took hold of a derelict hospital near Dundee. They have now extinguished a fire, after being called to reports of a fire in the roof space of the derelict Strathmartine Hospital in Dundee’s Craigmill Road at 1.14pm on Monday.
Two appliances from MacAlpine Road and three from Blackness Road were sent to the scene and crews used two ground monitors (ground based fixed hoses) to tackle the fire.
This morning the aerial rescue platform from MacAlpine Road was being used to dampen down the remaining hot spots and the crew members were using axes and small gear to cut away sections of the roof.
Grant Nicoll from the fire service is full of praise for the way crews responded:
Inquiries into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
