Scottish Game of Thrones star lands honorary military role
James Cosmo has been awarded the position of Colonel with Perth-based Royal Regiment of Scotland battalion.

Scottish Game of Thrones star James Cosmo is to take up a prestigious honorary role within the British Army.
The 73-year-old's been awarded the position of Colonel with Perth-based Royal Regiment of Scotland battalion.
The Clydebank actor has also appeared in the likes of Trainspotting and Braveheart.
Lieutenant Colonel Duncan Mackinnon, Commanding Officer of 7 SCOTS, said: "We are truly delighted that Colonel James has accepted this appointment.
"We are really looking forward to having him visit, when restrictions allow, and meet his Battalion to see what we do.
"I have spoken with him on several occasions and I am really struck by his sense of duty and desire to help raise the profile of the Battalion and the role Reservists play in the Army and society."
Major General Nick Borton, Colonel of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and its most senior officer, commented: "I am delighted to add my welcome to the new Honorary Colonel of 7 SCOTS, to those of the rest of the wider Regiment, and wish him every success in his appointment."
7 SCOTS is an Army Reserve Infantry Battalion based in Perth with elements of the Battalion spread across the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, Grampian, Argyll and Bute and West Dunbartonshire (Stirling, Dumbarton, Dundee, Perth, Kirkcaldy, Aberdeen, Peterhead, Elgin, Inverness and the Western Isles).
Their role is to support the Field Army by recruiting and training soldiers from across the northern half of Scotland, who then train to deploy alongside their Regular counterparts.
In 2019 members of 7 SCOTS trained with the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS) as part of the NATO Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (Light) and mobilised personnel as part of the Mobile Testing Units across Scotland in support of the combined response to COVID-19.
