Scotsman in hospital after Paris terror attacks
A man from the Highlands is in hospital following the terrorist attacks in Paris, MPs have been told.
Ian Blackford, the MP for Ross, Skye and Lochaber, said during a House of Commons statement that his constituent Hamish ''Callum'' MacDonald remained in an ''induced coma'' after falling victim to the attacks.
The 24-year-old from Fort William had been posted as missing but a relative has since put updates on social media saying he is being treated in hospital.
Speaking in the Commons today, Mr Blackford asked Home Secretary Theresa May: "What support can we give to the family in this situation, not just the young man involved but his extended family?''
Mrs May said: ''We hope he will make a recovery. There is consular support available to families who wish to be supporting members of their family who are in hospital in France, we have also been looking on a wider point at what assistance the Department of Health can give to France particularly in looking at the issue of those who have been traumatised by the event.''
She told MPs the terrorists who attacked on the streets of the French city "represent no-one and they will fail'' to divide free countries such as Britain and France.
She said she would be lobbying her counterparts across Europe for tighter gun laws, and told the Commons that reviews of Friday night's attacks were under way to make sure any lessons available could be learnt by the British police and security services.
