The Scottish Government has apologised to people in Tayside who've been let down by the region's mental health services.

The Mental Healh Minister's been taking questions from MSPs following last month's damning independent report.

It highlighted 51 recommendations for NHS Tayside to implement, including a whole system review of services.

Clare Haughey spoke at Holyrood this afternoon.

"While it's not enough on its own, I would like to offer my apology on behalf of the Scottish Government for what they (patients and their families) have endured.

"Many Tayside patients, their families and friends, including those who have lost loved ones, will have found the report challenging.

"Their bravery, courage and candour was vital to shaping this report."

Scottish Lib Dems health spokesperson Alex Cole-Hamilton asked the Mental Health Minister for guarantees the same mistakes won't be made again.

"The catalyst for much of this work were the tragic circumstances under which David Ramsey was turned away twice at Carseview," he said.

"What assurance can the minister give that should somebody appear at Carseview in a state of mental crisis today, that they would not also be turned away?"

The mental health minister said she expects anyone who presents in a crisis is given a thorough mental health assessment, and that a proper risk assessment is carried out.
