Over a million people will flock to Scotland for the UCI Cycling World Championships, but what will it mean for traffic and road closures?

Events and races are taking place up and down the country over the course of 11 days and people will be travelling from all around world to take part.

Although Glasgow will be the main focus of the event, there will be disruption, diversions and road closures across the country, and people are urged to plan ahead before travelling.

Here’s everything you can expect to see over the next 11 days.

If you’re a driver, then you might have a headache throughout the UCI as roads across Glasgow and other areas will be widely impacted by closures and diversions.

The same applies if you plan on getting the bus, First Glasgow has announced that there will be ‘extensive diversions’ on over a dozen of its services – people are being urged to plan well in advance before making any journeys.

How will the roads in Glasgow will be affected?

The city centre is the area with the most disruption expected, especially on days with road races (August 5, 6, 8, 12 and 13).

Road closures for the Road Race City Centre Circuit will commence from 00:01am until 11:59pm from August 4 to August 8 and then again on August 12 to August 13.

• Buchanan Street, Sauchiehall Street, Bath Street, St Vincent Street and a section of Argyle Street (including all entry points to the streets)

Road closures for the Mixed Team Time Trial Relay will commence from 00:01am from August 4 until 11:59pm August 8.

Will there be road closures outwith Glasgow?

Yes. A number of roads and slip roads will be closed at points throughout the event.

Road closures are expected on the M90, A90, A85 and A9 during races. The M90 (M9 J1A slip road) will close on 6 August at 8:45am and the M90 J1A will close at Queensferry around one hour later.

The A9 northbound will close from Barnton juncion in Edinburgh at 9:30 so riders can pass over the Queensferry Crossing.

The Clackmannonshire Bridge will close during the men’s elite race from 10:20am for 30-40 minutes which will limit roads connecting the north and south of the Forth.
