Tay News can reveal a rise in the number of families who've become homeless in Dundee.

It's gone up for the first time in 4 years, with 414 families reaching out to Dundee City Council for help between April 2015 and April of last year.

The number of people seeking help from local charities has also gone up.

Tay News has been speaking to Margaret Morrison from Starter Packs Dundee, which helps provide people who have been homeless with essential household equipment and bedding.

She says: "In October, we had 73 referrals and the previous year it was only 38.

"That's a huge increase.

"Although we can manage to give out a pack to everyone, we'd rather we weren't giving out to as many people.

"We'd like more people to be in their own homes rather than being homeless."

The number of single people applying for homeless status is down slightly from the year before - but it is still high, with over 1,000 people reaching out for help.
