24 puppies rescued from life or death situation in Cairnryan
The Scottish SPCA rushed over to the ferry port to find puppies fighting for their lives.
The Scottish SPCA special investigations teams rushed over to Cairnryan ferry port in Dumfries and Galloway after receiving a tip off that puppies were heard barking from within a lorry.
Police officers found 24 cockapoo and cavapoo type puppies in cardboard boxes underneath a lorry with no food or water.
The young pups were transported to a SSPCA animal rescue and rehoming centres to get assessed by vets.
They were found to have life-threatening diseases and suffer from severe ear mites amongst other issues after travelling in 'appalling conditions'.
The Scottish SPCA said they’re trying to stop illegal puppy trades:
“The special investigation team work as part of a Pet trade taskforce, a multi-agency enforcement gap, dedicated to tackling the illegal and illicit puppy trade.”
The 24 rescues are to stay in the charity’s care until they are nursed back to health and deemed fit enough to be rehomed.

The charity receives no funding from the government for their work and are asking the public to be a part of the rescue and make a donation that could be vital to saving their lives:
“We estimate that their rescue and care will cost us £25,000 – almost half of what it costs us to run the Scottish SPCA every day.
“We receive no government funding and can’t do our work without your help.”
