Preferred bidder chosen for £40 million Dundee waterfront development
New development to bring flats, offices and hotel to Dundee waterfront
Dundee City Council’s chosen the preferred developer for a £40 million development of flats, office space and hotel next to the new V&A Museum in Dundee.
Located immediately north of the V&A Museum of Design and opposite the new entrance to Dundee’s train station, Robertson will oversee the construction of 67 flats for the private rented sector and 50,000sq ft of Grade A office space, with the 120-bed hotel to be aimed at the upper end of the visitor market.
Derek Shewan, Chief Operating Officer at Robertson said: “Dundee Waterfront is an exciting and innovative development project so we are naturally delighted to be selected as preferred developer for this exclusive, flagship development.
“The team behind the Waterfront is ambitious and enthusiastic about this project and we are delighted to be working with them. We are looking forward to delivering something the whole of Scotland can be proud of.”
The private rented sector element of the development will include one, two and three bedroom flats appealing to young professionals, couples, families, retired couples and business lets.
The 50,000 sq ft of Grade A office space will extend to four floors of open plan office space, with potential for accommodating a number of uses including back-office, technology, professional services, financial services, public sector organisations or possible call centre users.
Meanwhile the hotel will help meet the forecast demand for accommodation in the central waterfront as growing numbers of visitors and tourists visit Dundee.
Mr Shewan added: “This development promises to be a high quality addition to Dundee’s flourishing Waterfront area and we are looking forward to moving on to the next stage of the project.”
Dundee City Council city development convener Cllr Will Dawson said: “We expect more private investment in the Waterfront to emerge as the surge in interest we are currently seeing from developers begins to bear fruit. This will produce more of the jobs and prosperity we are aiming for and it is pleasing to note that there have already been substantial community benefits resulting from the regeneration already. Our Central Waterfront is an exciting hive of activity as progress continues on a number of major projects, including V&A Dundee and the railway station.”
Dundee City Council executive director of city development Mike Galloway said:
“These proposals are imaginative and match our desire to work with commercial partners that will deliver our vision for the Waterfront. It is also very rewarding that Dundee Waterfront is clearly attracting investment from top quality businesses wanting to share in the UK’s 3rd largest waterfront regeneration project. Most of the land in the central Waterfront is owned by Dundee City Council, so we can work in partnership with investors and take a long-term approach to development. We are also open to joint ventures so would encourage more businesses and entrepreneurs to contact us with their concepts.”
