Police have confirmed the death of an 8 year old boy in a major road collision in Fife.

Police have confirmed the death of an 8 year old boy in a major road collision in Fife.

It happened at around 2.55pm yesterday afternoon (Mon 4th April) on the A92, north of the Redhouse Roundabout.

A Ford Focus collided with an Iveco lorry in lane one of the carriageway.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another boy - a 9 year old - sustained serious facial injuries, while a 36 year old woman is in a critical condition in hospital.

The driver of the lorry and a 36 year old male passenger of the car were unhurt.

The road was closed for several hours while police conducted inquiries.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair from the Road Policing Unit said: "Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young boy, while the driver and another child also sustained very serious injuries.

"We are still trying to establish exactly what happened and I would ask any motorists who were on the A92 on Monday afternoon and who witnessed this incident to contact police immediately."
