A Ford Focus collided with an Iveco lorry in lane one of the carriageway.

The child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another boy - a 9 year old - sustained serious facial injuries, while a 36 year old woman is in a critical condition in hospital.

The road was closed for several hours while police conducted inquiries.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair from the Road Policing Unit said: "Tragically this collision has resulted in the death of a young boy, while the driver and another child also sustained very serious injuries.
