Police confirm body found on Fife beach that of missing Leuchars woman
Police have confirmed a body found on a Fife beach is that of missing woman Maureen Bannister.
A member of the public discovered the 43-year-old's remains on Tentsmuir Beach at about 6pm on Monday. Officers are treating the death as unexplained as they seek information on her last movements.
Ms Bannister had not been seen since leaving a house in Pitcairn Park, Leuchars, to walk her dog on Sunday afternoon.
It is believed she travelled in a Ford Focus with her cross-breed Yorkshire terrier to the Tentsmuir Forest area.
Sergeant Gary Combe said: Our sincere condolences go to Maureen's family and friends at this very sad time.
We're working to establish the full circumstances surrounding Maureen's death and are asking anyone who may have seen her since Sunday afternoon to get in touch.''
Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.
