A 15-year-old girl is in a serious condition in hospital after being knocked down on a pedestrian crossing outside a school.

The girl was crossing Ancrum Road in Dundee outside Ancrum Primary School at about 5.20pm yesterday when she was struck by a black Ford Fiesta.

Police said she was walking on the pedestrian crossing at the time and suffered a serious head injury in the collision.

The 15-year-old was taken to Ninewells Hospital where she continues to receive treatment.

Officers closed the road while they investigated the circumstances of the crash and have appealed for any witnesses to the collision to contact them.
