Detective Constable Neil Pirie, of Dundee CID, said: They approach a person and ask for help buying goods, such as household items. In some cases they say they need to help family members who are unwell.
“The person approached is persuaded, in one case threatened, and accompanied into the shop or store and then pay for the goods selected by the women.
“We are asking anyone who is approached in this manner to get in touch, particularly if they are threatened or made to feel uncomfortable. We are also asking shop and store managers to be aware and to let us know if they have concerns.”
