Plea Over Perth Vandalism

Published 24th Mar 2015

A plea from Perth and Kinross Council for residents to look after play areas.

We are told there has been a spate of vandalism recently - including a swing being set on fire in the North Inch.

It is the second time it has been targeted - with more than £3500 pounds worth of damage caused.

Councillor Douglas Pover, convener of Perth & Kinross Council's community safety committee said: "I am saddened to hear that the inconsiderate actions of a minority have ruined the enjoyment of one of our play areas for its users.

"I would like to take this opportunity to highlight that the safety of equipment in the council's play areas is checked and playgrounds are cleaned on a regular basis to ensure play areas are safe, well maintained and pleasant to use.

“I hope this brings some reassurance to parents. "I would urge residents who notice any damage or vandalism to equipment to either report it to Police Scotland or alternatively report it on the council's website www.pkc.gov.uk or telephone 01738 476476." The council is also seeking information about damage to climbing units, sand tables and megaphones in the play area at Perth Leisure Pool and graffiti which has appeared on the flood wall on Tay Street.
