Tay News can exclusively reveal there are plans to make a documentary about the closure of a specialist Perthshire school and the impact it's had on pupils.

The New School at Butterstone supported 24 kids with additional needs. Many have been left in limbo with no alternative educational provision after it shut its doors late last year.

Parents and teachers have been campaigning for an inquiry into why this happened - with the school's board blaming financial pressures.

Head of care Angie Gordon said: "We want to know exactly why the school was forced to close. Why it was forced to close so quickly and which organisations were involved in the decision making.

"We'd like the documentary to capture the strength of our school community, this involved the staff the young people and the families.

"The atmosphere and the ethos at our school was unique and we would the viewer to be aware of that."

The documentary is being made by TNS productions and is set take four to six months to be completed.

Co-producer Calum Colley said: "Our goal is to produce a feature length documentary film. The purpose is to have a broad a viewership as possible.

"We want to make something that is good enough to be shown at a film festival. We would like it to be accessible on the internet."

Mr Colley says this will allow people to fully understand what benefit the school had on it's pupils.

"The reasons why it was unique is not something I can explain in a sentence or two," he added.

"It's something we need to show through through testimonies of staff students and parents.

"We think that it is an important story to tell in the context of additional support needs in Scotland."
