Sports facilities in Perthshire will be getting funding of almost £200,000.

It is part of Sportscotland’s wider £1.5m for groups across the country.

Aberfeldy Sports Club’s getting the cash for a new mixed use clubhouse and Blairgowrie and Rattray community football club will build a changing pavilion.

Aberfeldy Sports Club Secretary Bill Bruce said: “We hope to start construction within the next few months and look forward to opening a high-quality facility which will make a very significant contribution to sport and well-being throughout the community.”

And Sandy Thomson, Trustee Chair and Project Lead at Blairgowrie and Rattray Community Football Club, said: “This investment will go towards the cost of building a new community pavilion which will comprise of dressing rooms, showers, toilets and more importantly a social space which can be used by not just the football teams but the whole community.”

The cash is on top of the £300,000 of funding already given to both clubs by the UK Government.

Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser said: “I am delighted to hear of the funding being awarded to Aberfeldy Sports Club and Blairgowrie and Rattray CFC.

“Aberfeldy Sports Club has been awarded £120,710 towards a new mixed use clubhouse facility on the site of the existing clubhouse currently used by Aberfeldy Golf Club.

“The project was initiated by the Aberfeldy Golf Club and Aberfeldy Rugby Football Club but will be available for use by all amateur sports clubs and available for hire by the wider community.”

Mr Fraser added: “I was also pleased that Blairgowrie and Rattray CFC were awarded £67,100 towards a new four-team changing pavilion next to their 3G pitch.

“The ambitious club are well connected in the local community, working closely with schools, Active Schools, Eastern Perthshire Community Sports Partnership, Live Active Leisure and the Scottish Football Association.

“The project will allow for an increase in membership, with a particular focus on engaging more young people and women and girls.”
