An MP has written to Police Scotland urging it to provide full transparency about an ongoing investigation into the shooting of a man near Aberfeldy.

Member for Perth and North Perthshire, Pete Wishart, submitted the letter after officers admitted evidence could have been lost in the time between finding Brian’s body and a crime scene being established.

The 65 year-old was found in the Pitlie area on February 17 but his death was treated as “non-suspicious” and “medical related”.

It wasn’t until an examination was carried out four days later that police established his injuries were consistent with being fatally shot.

Pete Wishart said: “A number of my constituents have contacted me about the tragic shooting of Brian Low, and the various concerns they have about how this has been handled.

“In light of this shocking incident, the local community in Aberfeldy are now understandably fearful for their safety, and, more than anything, Brian Low’s family are still without answers.

“I have therefore written to Police Scotland, calling for urgent clarification on what is known to have happened thus far, and why the investigation was not launched sooner.

“Going forward, it is vital that Police Scotland ensure full transparency as this situation develops.”

Brian, a former groundskeeper, was taking his dog on an early morning walk when he was attacked.

Brian wasn't known to police

Officers say he wasn’t involved in any criminality or had any personal feuds that they are aware of.

During a conference yesterday, they also declined to say what weapon had been used or the type of ammunition.

Anyone with information can call 101 and quote reference number 0884 of Saturday, 17 February 2024.

Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.

A Major Incident Public Portal (MIPP) link has also been set up which allows the public to submit information directly to the inquiry team, based at the Scottish Crime Campus.
