There is a new ambassador for the Alliance Trust Cateran Yomp. Extreme adventurer Polly Murray's challenging us to hike 54 miles around Blairgowrie in 24 hours this June. The full 54-mile course winds its circular way past Kirkmichael, Glenshee, Glen Isla, to Bamff and back to the starting point at Blairgowrie. She's been telling Tay News of her delight at being chosen:

She says: “The Cateran Yomp route is literally on my doorstep, and takes in an area which was my childhood playground. “As a passionate advocate of the social and fitness benefits of getting people out there into the great outdoors and as someone who considers Perthshire to be unmatched when it comes to quality of life and breathtaking scenery, the Cateran Yomp is an event that I am extremely committed to. “The event itself is now very much established in its fifth year and, I know from experience taking part myself, that in terms of organisation it really is a well-oiled machine. Everything has been thought of to ensure that the experience for participants is as enjoyable as it is fulfilling. “Those walking the 54 mile course enjoy all sorts of entertainment such as clay pigeon shooting and archery. Aches and pains are also well looked after at the rest and massage stations dotted around the course. And even if the midges at Glen Isla are not so nice the haggis you’re offered there certainly is. Even the weariest spirits will be lifted by the breathtaking fireworks display. “There’s plenty of walking fuel too. Hot food, like stovies and fish and chips, tea and coffee, non-alcoholic cocktails served by a blacktie barman, chocolate brownies and fruit. There are even ice creams at a stall at The Spittal of Glenshee at a point on the course where you really need a boost to drive you on to that next checkpoint at Kirkton of Glen Isla. “There really is excitement on tap all the way to the end of the 24-hour event and the fact that you can compete with friends as part of a team really emphasises the camaraderie and a social dimension taking part that is the nicest thing about The Cateran Yomp. “The options of three trails – gold, silver and bronze courses – offers a level of challenges that will appeal right across the spectrum of people’s fitness and experience. Those taking part have the option to take on the bronze (22 miles), silver (36.5 miles) or gold trails (54 miles) – distances that allow you to set your own targets and find your own pace.” Picture from @Soldierscharity.
