Perth residents warned after spate of bike thefts
Police in Perth are issuing a warning after an increase in the number of bikes stolen in the city.
A number have been stolen in the City Centre and police are advising owners to consider the security of their bikes. Inspector Kevin Chase said : "I would ask for cyclists to consider taking extra security when using their pedal cycles. "Record details of your bike, the make and model, the frame number (normally found underneath the bike between the pedals or where the back wheel slots in) and other distinguishing features, and take a photo. "Consider using a high quality D-lock. It takes thieves a few seconds to cut through poor quality locks and chains - make it as difficult for them as possible. "Take parts that are easy to remove with you. For example, saddles and wheels. "If at all possible, consider locking your bike securely at home. Bikes are often a target for thieves if they are stored in communal hallways, gardens or attached to railings. "The costs of these items of security is not as great as a replacement bike. "I would also ask that any persons who have been offered a pedal cycle for sale that they thought was suspicious should contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
