Small number of staff moved to covid-hit Perth Prison as cover
33 workers have either tested positive or identified as close contacts
A small number of staff are being redeployed to the covid-hit Perth prison to cover for colleagues who're self-isolating.
Well over one hundred cases have been detected among inmates and officers.
Unions feared security levels could be compromised with staff capacity dropping.
But Tom Fox from the Scottish Prison Service believes things are under control.
"We have two staff from Cornton Vale Prison who're being deployed to support the staff group at Perth," he said.
"Obviously if other resources are required that is something we would support. At the moment the entire prison is in lockdown, which is just about as secure as it can be."
"It's a dynamic situation that changes daily, we are hopeful that come the period immediately after the weekend we will see the gradual resumption of more normal circumstances in Perth prison."
18 staff members at Perth prison have returned positive results, with a further 15 self-isolating after being identified as close contacts.
There are 124 known cases of the virus among inmates. Earlier this week the Justice Secretary expressed his confidence the situation was under control.
