At the age of 32, the skip says she feels it's the "right time" to step away
Olympic gold medal winning curler Eve Muirhead has announced her retirement from the sport.
At the age of 32, the skip says she feels it's the "right time" to step away.
Muirhead won bronze at Sochi 2014 and after missing out on the same medal four years later, she led the team to the Olympic title in Beijing.
She also won the world title, and three on the European stage.
"Unparalleled" impact on Scottish curling
Eve said: "I have made the hardest decision of my life to hang up my curling shoes and retire."
In a post on Twitter, she thanked teammates and family among others, and said her supporters have been "second to none".
Chief Executive of sportscotland Stewart Harris said: ‘’The impact that Eve Muirhead has had on Curling in Scotland is unparalleled.
"Ever since she competed in her first Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and became the youngest-ever skip to win an Olympic medal, Eve has been a consistently exceptional athlete and individual.
"Eve’s 11 gold medals in Olympic Games, World Championships and European Championships are a true testament to her dedication to Curling over these years.
"Eve is a fantastic role model, through her passion for the sport and her drive to see more people across the country stepping onto a rink and participating in Curling.
"I want to wish Eve all the best in her retirement and for the future.’’
