Perth High School shared NORR’s – the architect’s – impressions of the new school on its Twitter page over the weekend.

NORR and Robertson Construction – who worked together in building Bertha Park High School – were appointed to lead on the Perth High School project.

The school is being built to a Passivhaus design .

The environmentally friendly design allowed PKC to secure 50 per cent of the capital funding from the Scottish Government’s Learning Estate Investment Programme.

Work on the school was delayed by the pandemic.

It was originally due to open in August 2023 but is now expected to open some time in the summer of 2024.

Perth City South Liberal Democrat councillor Liz Barrett said: “I think it’s just great. I am delighted that the plans have been submitted and it’s going to be built to Passivhaus standards.

"That means it’s going to be properly insulated and use as little energy as possible."

A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: "Perth and Kinross Council can confirm that a full planning application for the replacement Perth High School building has now been submitted.

"The application will now be assessed in line with the normal planning process; and there will be an opportunity for public comment on the plans as part of the process of determining the application.

"Subject to the application being approved, it is proposed that the new school would be built on the existing school grounds in a tandem build, i.e. the existing school facilities would continue to operate until the new school building is ready for occupation.

"It is anticipated that on this basis construction would start in spring 2022 with the new school building ready for occupation in summer 2024 and all works, including demolition of the old building and creation of new sports pitches, complete by summer 2025."
