A drugs gang member was snared after a fire at a block of flats Perth.

Calum Menzies was part of a crime mob being watched by detectives in the city.

A judge heard how there was a blaze at flats in Pomarium Street in Perth last December.

Firefighters forced entry to a property as residents were evacuated.

This then lead to a large haul of high purity cocaine being discovered.

Prosecutor Greg Farrell told the High Court in Glasgow a total of one and a half kilos of the drug was seized during the operation with a potential value of around ÂŁ553,100.

Menzies, also of Perth, was caught after his fingerprints were found on the packages.

When he later arrested, the 37 year-old was found with a large amount of cash.

But, Mr Farrell told the hearing: "He initially denied any involvement in drugs."

He is now behind bars, however, after he today/yesterday admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine at different locations in Perth between December 11 2019 and January 16 2020.

Menzies appeared via video link from prison.

Lord Mulholland deferred sentencing until next month.
