Frustration over delay installing bike lock-ups at Kinross Park and Ride

Work is under way to re-install bike lock-ups at Kinross Park and Ride after lockers were removed following vandalism.

Kinross-shire councillor Dave Cuthbert voiced frustration over the delay in installing secure bike storage at the facility at a recent meeting of Perth and Kinross Council’s Climate Change and Sustainability Committee.

The local authority has since said it plans to consult with stakeholders next month on its designs for a sustainable transport hub at Kinross Park and Ride which include an improved bus shelter as well as providing even more secure cycle parking than was there previously.

Cllr Cuthbert has been raising the issue for some time.

The Independent councillor said: “I am very frustrated that we have not got the bike lock-ups at Kinross Park and Ride. They are badly needed. People are having to take their cars rather than use their bicycles. The sooner it’s delivered the better.”

Perth and Kinross Council said the previous lockers were removed following vandalism and to allow resurfacing work.

A Perth and Kinross Council spokesperson said: “Following vandalism to some of the cycle lockers at Kinross Park and Ride, and to allow resurfacing of the car park, it was necessary for us to remove the secure bicycle parking provision on site.

“We are currently in the process of developing the design for a sustainable transport hub at Kinross Park and Ride, incorporating an improved bus shelter with an increased capacity of secure bicycle parking.

“We anticipate consulting with stakeholders on the proposed hub in June with a view to then obtaining planning permission before installing the new facility thereafter.”
