Police in Perth say 'several' adults charged with buying teens alcohol

Officers have seen a rise in anti-social behaviour in recent weeks resulting in the reopening of Operation Stung

It's emerged an operation into tackling anti-social behaviour in Perth has reopened.

Operation Stung was launched last year after a teenager was stabbed near Moncreiffe Island.

Now a rise in underage drinking, which saw three call outs of ambulances to the North Inch one day last month, has stepped up police patrols.

Inspector Kerry Lynch says there've been 'several' cases of adults buying teens alcohol from off-licences.

"I don't think it's planned as such, they're youngsters just asking lots of members of the public in the streets," she said.

"We watch them approach members of the public who have then reported to the police that they have been approached by groups of young people badgering them, asking them to buy alcohol.

"There've been several cases now where adults have purchased alcohol for these young people and have subsequently been charged by the police for doing so."

One Saturday last month 10 youngsters were taken to Perth Police Office through a range of issues such intoxication levels, committing ASB offences or pestering people to purchase alcohol for them.

On three occasions paramedics were called to the North Inch for youngsters who were unconscious having vomited or urinated on themselves.
