Overnight search for man in River Tay stood down

An overnight search for a man reported to have gone into the River Tay in Perth has been stood down.

Emergency services were called to the North Inch area at around 10.50pm last night.

Coastguard Rescue Teams from South Queensferry, Dundee and St Andrews assisted in the search and a helicopter from Prestwick was also sent.

The RNLI's all-weather and inshore lifeboats from Broughty Ferry were deployed too, with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Police Scotland also in attendance

The search of the water was called off at 2.05am on Tuesday 12th September.

Sergeant Paul Smith from Police Scotland told Tay News: "Our search remains ongoing for this person, and we are asking for the public’s assistance to help trace them.

“If you were in the area of the River Tay last night and saw or heard anything that might assist us in our search, please get in touch as soon as possible via 101 quoting incident number 4389 of 11 September.”
