Emergency services respond to possible ordnance device found near Arbroath lifeboat station

Emergency services have responded to reports of a possible ordnance device found at Arbroath beach, near the lifeboat station, this morning.

The device, and other items found, were reported to police at around 10:30am.

Montrose Coastguard were also deployed to the scene and will continue to monitor the area.

An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit (EOD) has been informed

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.30am on Thursday, 16 January, 2025, we were called to the beach in Arbroath, near the life boat station after items and a possibly ordnance device were discovered. EOD and HM Coastguard have been contacted.”

A HM Coastguard spokesperson said: "Montrose Coastguard Rescue was sent to Arbroath harbour in response to a report of suspected ordnance made to HM Coastguard at about 10.55am on 16 January.

"An Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit has been informed. Montrose CRT will monitor the location. Police Scotland was also alerted."
