NHS Tayside's setting out its response to a hard hitting indepnedent report on the region's mental health services.

The health board's put forward a draft action plan - including a promise to restore a seven day crisis service in Angus.

That's one of the 51 recommendations which were laid out by in February.

The review was carried out after the pressure from former patients families who'd lost their loved ones.

The man who led the investigation is welcoming the response from NHS Tayside.

"I am pleased to note that Tayside have produced an action plan in response to the Trust and Respect report’s 51 recommendations, by 1 June as recommended in the report," said David Strang.

"The Independent Inquiry will be returning to Tayside early in 2021 to report on the progress that has been made in implementing the report’s recommendations.

"I look forward to seeing the implementation of their action plan in the months ahead."

The NHS Tayside plan also proposes a target to reduce the dependency on locum psychiatry staff by 50% by next summer.

It will submit the report to the Scottish Government later today.
