A new charity dedicated to improving health and wellbeing in and around Brechin has been launched.
The Brechin Healthcare Group has been set up by locals who are keen to ensure the healthcare provided in the town meets the needs of people and communities in the area.
It includes representatives of Brechin and Inveresk Community Councils, the Salvation Army, local churches and schools, local councillors and Mairi Gougeon MSP.
Grahame Lockhart, one of the trusteses of the group, said: “We want to help people in Brechin, Edzell and the Glens to take ownership of their health and wellbeing.
“Brechin Healthcare Group is keen to work with local people, local organisations, Angus Council and NHS Tayside to develop sustainable, effective ways to meet the healthcare needs of our communities and our specific local circumstances.
“This launch marks the start of a new era for healthcare in the Brechin area. Ultimately, our vision is to develop a community-owned and run Health and Wellbeing Hub that works for everyone and addresses needs within the Brechin and rural landward area.”
The group has received funding from Angus Council’s Your Budget Your Choice Fund.
Following the launch, Brechin Healthcare Group will begin the next YBYC funded project, featuring a series of ‘Conversations’ which will be held throughout the area.
Grahame said: “All members of local communities will be warmly welcomed at these informal events. We believe these conversations will empower our community and generate ways we can help ourselves to improve our health and wellbeing.”
The first Conversation will be a drop-in session at Andover Primary School in Brechin from 3pm – 7pm on Wednesday, December 6.
