More names to be added to Dundee’s Discovery Walk
Phase Two will continue to honour the achievements of scientists, innovators and social reformers of the past who either came from or had a strong connection to Dundee.
Five more discoverers linked to Dundee are to be commemorated in Phase Two of Discovery Walk over the next couple of years. Discovery Walk comprises a series of plaques honouring the achievements of scientists, innovators and social reformers of the past who either came from or had a strong connection to Dundee. The nominees being honoured in Phase Two are: postage stamp pioneer James Chalmers; electrical scientist James Bowman Lindsay; inventor and instrument maker George Lowden; doctor and health reformer Thomas Maclagan; and doctor and x-ray pioneer George A Pirie.
Kelly-Ann Marr, chair of the Discovery Walk Steering Group, said: “As the Chair of the Discovery Walk Steering Group I am very excited that so many Dundonians have the opportunity play their part in the waterfront redevelopment by supporting the installation of the next five plaques of Discovery Walk.” And the public are being asked to support Phase Two through a unique crowdfunding initiative.
A limited edition of 2,000 special commemorative badges has been produced for sale at £5 each in selected retailers around the city.
All income will go to pay for the production and installation of the five new plaques next year.
