Ministerial Visit For New Affordable Homes
Brought Ferry is home to 15 properties built in the city as part of the National Housing Trust initiative.
Dundee’s newest homes have been visited by Scotland’s housing minister.
Margaret Burgess was in Broughty Ferry to see the first 15 affordable properties built in the city as part of the National Housing Trust initiative – the two bedroom flats at Sandy Loan will provide homes at affordable rents for people on low to modest incomes.
Charlene McMurchie’s one of the first tenants and schemes like this are vital to help young people on to the housing ladder:
Developed by the Scottish Government and the Scottish Futures Trust, the NHT initiative is supported by a Scottish Government guarantee.
Under the initiative, developers and local authorities jointly fund the purchase of newly-built homes then make them available for rent at below market rates.
Housing Minister Margaret Burgess said: "It is a pleasure to be here today at Dundee’s first NHT development at Sandy Loan.
"These 15 homes for mid-market rent will be a welcome addition to the supply of affordable housing in Dundee.
"Developments such as this not only provide a boost for our construction sector and wider economy, but also offer people and families the chance to rent a new home at affordable rates.
"I have no doubt that residents will enjoy living in these high quality, affordable homes with much needed warmth provided by renewable heating.”
Work started on the development in March 2014 in a new street at Churchill Place/East Links Place, named Sandy Loan following a consultation with the community.
Let by Northern Housing, part of the Hillcrest Group, the development is on the site of former lock up garages close to the centre of Broughty Ferry.
