Dundee boss James McPake's confident the departure of Graham Dorrans won't harm his sides chances of Championship glory.

The 33-year-old midfielder activated a release clause in his contract, allowing him to move to Western Sydney Wanderers on a free transfer.

But when asked if the veteran leaving Dens Park will dent the Dees chances of promotion, manager McPake remained optimistic.

"No, the league's tough as it is. Graham's departure gives us the option to strengthen other parts of the team, said James McPake.

"If there was an area we were going to lose a player from, whether it be a serious injury or if they were just going to leave, we've got midfielders there.

"I'm not saying I wanted Graham to leave, I didn't. But it opens up some money for other parts of the team where we feel we need to strengthen."

Last Friday it was revealed Dorrans was the Dundee player who'd tested positive for coronavirus.

"He's still self-isolating in his house in North Lanarkshire. There'll be things he needs to do to get into Australia," added McPake

"We wish him and his family well and thank him for his services."
