Tommy Wright has extended his contract as St Johnstone boss until 2019, the Perth club have announced.

The Northern Irishman had been linked with the vacant managerial post at Tayside neighbours Dundee United.

But a statement on Saints official website confirmed that Wright, who replaced Steve Lomas in June 2013 and who led the club to its first Scottish Cup final win a year later while achieving back-to-back top-six finishes in the Scottish Premiership, had signed up for another four years.

Wright said: "Of course I'm delighted to have extended my contract.

"I am enjoying my time at the club, and I do feel there's still a lot to be done and a lot to be achieved.

"When I look at the squad of players, I realise how well we've done to assemble such a strong team and I know we can achieve more success together.

"I would like to thank the chairman and the club for their continued support.''
