Police in riot gear had to rescue a 40-year-old man after he was attacked by a dog in Perthshire

The man was bitten in the attack in Auchterarder just before 7 on Friday and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers haven't confirmed the breed of the dog - which was put down - but said it wasn't an XL bully.

The attack came after strict rules on XL bullies came into force earlier that day.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6.40pm on Friday, 23 February, 2024 we received a report of a man having been injured by a dog at an address on Eagle Avenue, Auchterarder.

“The 40-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment and later released.

“The dog was removed from the property and taken to be euthanised.”
