Man held over serious sexual assault in Perth
A man is being held by police over an alleged serious sex attack said to have been committed on a city centre street.
Officers raced to the scene in Perth's South Methven Street around 7pm on Sunday after reports that a woman had been attacked.
One local said the attack is said to have happened in an alleyway off the busy street, which is lined by shops and cafes as well as residential flats.
He said: "There were three police cars parked up outside a building at the junction with Mill Street.
"From the sounds of it it was a very serious incident but there was someone detained for it almost immediately."
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland's Tayside Division said: "Police Scotland is making enquiries in connection with a sexual assault which happened in South Methven Street, Perth at 7pm on Sunday 13 November.
"A 44-year-old man has been detained and is assisting with enquiries."
