A man who died after being found on a Dundee road with serious injuries has been named by police.

67-year-old John Ogston was discovered by a member of the public at around 11pm on New Year's Day.

He was found on Mains Road at the junction between Bayne Square in the Hilltown area.

He was taken to a nearby house and then to hospital, but died as a result of injuries to his head and body.

These are being treated as unexplained and are not thought to be suspicious.

DCI Graham Binnie said: “We are urgently looking to trace a number of witnesses, in particular the driver and any occupants of a red Audi style motor car, four men who assisted with helping Mr Ogston into a nearby house and the driver of a taxi who may have driven along the street at or near the time of the incident.

"I would stress that that due to the circumstances of the incident it may not have been immediately obvious to anyone who saw Mr Ogston that he was seriously injured.

“I would also appeal to anyone who has knowledge of the incident to contact Police Scotland.

"Also, we would like to reassure the public that there be an increased Police presence in the area as officers will be conducting house to house and CCTV enquiries in the coming days”.

Anyone with information is being urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, or to contact any officer.
